The stars are out tonight

My heart broke a little bit last Sunday night when I heard the news, it doesn't even feel real. I don't know how to function in a world without the Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust, the Goblin King, and all the other great personas. David Bowie taught me it's cool to be weird, makeup isn't a set design, gender is fluid, and gave me my first pang of lust. He showed me compassion for the bad guy and that it's ok constantly redefine and evolve who you are.

His voice is pure liquid gold that flows through my core and gives me goosebumps-it's the sound of heaven. It vibrates on the same wavelengths of my soul. I have a few favorite songs of course, Hunky Dory is my favorite album, I could listen to the loner mix of 'Bring Me the Disco King' on repeat, his Little Drummer Boy with Bing Crosby has always been my favorite Christmas song, but I would even listen to this man read the dictionary. He's so much more than my favorite Goblin King, his incredible vocal chords and insane talent as a musician and songwriter define him and an absolute Renaissance man the likes of which have never been seen.
I unfortunately was born too young to have the opportunity to see this unicorn perform in person, though it was my biggest life's dream to hear this voice straight to my ear drums, no middle man, be in the presence of such magnificence, and lament that it will never happen. I know the earth is billions of years old and we right now were lucky enough to exist in the same time as David Bowie, and I can agree, but God, does that statement hurt even more. In billions of years there has only been one David Bowie.

SORRY SIMON PEGG. STILL HEARTBROKEN.

It's nuts to think how someone you never met could have such an influence on your life. I've had more people than I can count give me condolences as if I've lost a friend, and I suppose in a way I have, though I can't imagine what people who actually knew this genius are going through. Though I haven't done it in a while, there are so many of my own creations that came about listening to his music, I used to sit and draw just lost in a world with Bowie as the soundtrack. I made my boyfriend dress up as him for Halloween one year, I introduced friends to his music, watched his movies during sleepovers, marveled at how one person could do so much and have so many different outlets for creativity. It hurts so much to think that this person no longer exists, but the legacy is left behind.

the internet gathered some awesome stuff for me so i don't have to sob looking for it all, so here a couple nice links.

O r e g o n

Man, turns out I'm bad at this again. But I've been super busy with stuff (super descriptive, I know) but I will def work on it some more. Still want to do lipstick comparisons and such but I'll get there.

So anyhow, I went to Oregon last weekend to spend some time with family and play in Portland, and even though it was a short trip I had a pretty good time in the city. It didn't even rain very much!

Got to see some cool street art, had some tasty food and drinks, are some more food, had ice cream, ate some more.... And went to Powell's. I literally came home with a stack of books and like a zillion calories.

This was literally the best ice cream I've ever had in my life. Hands down. I would eat this as my last meal. And every meal. And I also got to visit the holy land, Solestruck. It was just a showroom, but it was so pretty. I pet all the shoes.
And cuz obviously clothes are pretty much my favorite thing (after ice cream, obvs) here's what I wore my first day there
My new fave top- Steampunk Steel wifey top from Blackmilk, miista Rachel platforms, and The Vamp Jacket (also BM). Oh and this rad white leather cuff from Jakimac
I also went blue with the hair. And pink. Cuz why not right? Tried out Arctic Fox hair color and I'm definitely a fan.

But for serious I will totally work on being more consistent.

More Halloween Fun

So the week of Halloween I decided to take my Halloween inspired dressing for work a bit more serious and did wearable costumes for work with a different look each day! It was so much fun, and I got to finally get some entries in the BM Halloween contest (not that I anticipate winning, but entering always inspires me to step up my dressing game).

I got super busy this week trying to prepare for Comikaze (which I'll do a separate post about) that I haven't had time to upload anything, but here are last week's Halloween looks!

Oh, and I almost forgot, I'm on Lookbook.nu now, so look me up at Shenanigans_Galore!

Snow White
Black Milk Clothing's Princess Sheer Maxi Skirt and Kaboom Suspender Catsuit, Miista Rachel heels

Black Swan
Black Milk Clothing's Prima Donna Tulle Skirt, Vamp Jacket, and I Eat Mice Bodysuit, pink tulle skirt from Free People, Lime Crime Black Velvetine, heels from Urban Outfitters

Belle
Jakimac harness, Black Milk Clothing's Lemon Lace Skater dress, Steve Madden heels

Queen of Hearts
Black Milk Clothing Queen of Hearts Toasties and Good Guy Top, Sam Edelman Zoe Booties, Jakimac harness

Steampunk Ariel
Free People top, shell bra and corset from Wicked Chamber, Sam Edelman boots, Black Milk Clothing Mermemerald Legings

I was planning to be Steampunk Ariel for Comikaze, so I decided to tone down the look for the office the day before Halloween (we were having a big party and i made amazing Pumpkin Pie) so it's a bit of a different look for Comikaze shenanigans.

BM Halloween!

Let's talk about Black Milk's Halloween collection realquick. I would definitely argue that it's the most anticipated release of the year cuz obviously sharkies love dressing up all year, and what better day to dress up is there than Halloween?? And this year for me didn't disappoint. I will say I wished to have seen more unique designer pieces and more definitively Halloween themes (either classic or historical) but the Steampunk thing is definitely pretty rad, and had it been its own release and not the "Halloween" one, I think it would have been more well-received as a whole.

first halloween look of the month, dress from BM's collection 2 years ago, Dem Lines hosiery, and Sam Edelman's Zoe booties (I think you can actually still get them online)

But aside from that, these clothes are rad. I bought one piece on release day (lucky number 100!), but then I went a little crazy in store trying things on, and once i tried them on, didn't want to take them off! I Loved way more than i thought i would even like, and walked out with 5 pieces and a determination to pick up 3 more online after a restock. Plus, they're doing postcards again!! I loved the whole story they had to go along with this release, it really tied everything together, and the photos are really cool. (And I'll also add that the story was better than the plot of Crimson Peak, which i'm still sad was so disappointing, but that's not the point here..)

MYVL top, Lime Crime Jinx velvetine, Quay sunnies, BM Burned Velvet Wine Split Skirt

My plan for the month has been to wear nothing but halloweeny/spooky/autumn clothes that in some way fall within that theme, so I will def be whipping out all of the good stuff.

Quay sunnies (i love them), UD Matte Lipsticks in 1993 and Stark Naked with 1993 liner, BM Spellbound Reversible Skater dress, suuuuper old Steve Madden booties (they have lightning bolts and weird shit carved into the leather :D). It seems like i'm going with this witchy thing in earnest this month so far

Also, Black Milk is doing their #BMHalloween competition on insta again, so I will for sure be getting in on that. I've incorporated two BM items into my costume for this year, and I seriously can't wait to put it all together. But here are a couple from last year. Bf, my friend and I were villains.

So anyhow, some of these pix didn't come out great, but still fun to show some of the highlights from this month so far. And I got another repost!!! Woohoo! #LifeGoals

Salem

Today was a hardcore Lime Crime day, cuz why not. I used their Venus Palette as well as their Salem velvetine, which I feel like really go together. It was yoga day again (which was suuuuper painful after a night of spin class btw) so i figured something a little easy for lipstick would be handy. I love the velevtines and have like 4 of them, and will definitely be buying more, FDA be damned!! But seriously, they are great. And the Venus palette is definitely great as far as colors go. I know I've talked about it before, but omg, the colors are sah prettayyyy even if the container is a bit on the cheap side, the eyeshadows are really nice and blendable. I just need to work on blending out my crease a bit more.. Also have on Lancome's Grandiose mascara and that Dr. Jart BB cream I was skin matched with at Sephora. So here's a closer look at my face.

Ooh such neutral, much brown. I actually love this lipstick so much it made me do silly faces.

And of course since it's a day that ends in Y, gotta get that Black Milk fix in the Luna and Lola muscle tank and The Catsuit– the best gym wear piece I own. It's a catsuit FOR THE GYM. so it's perfect for like yoga type things and i can  opt to not even wear a silly sports bra cuz so much support. so awesome. Loooooove.

Serpentina

I wound up in NorCal for the past like 4 days, so it's taken me a few to get this post up, but continuing with my lipstick-a-day challenge, here's a fun one.

Yes, I know there's even more bad press for Lime Crime with their ingredients and the FDA, but I'm still not going to go on some crazy boycott, it's just something to be aware of.

So that aside, fuck, I love these lipsticks. I have three of Lime Crime's Unicorn lipsticks, and I have no regrets. They're so amazingly opaque and such great colors, and they really grip your lips. The texture is a little on the waxy side, so they really don't cater to chapped lips and take a little work to fill in the whole lip, along with the fact that they're difficult to get a crisp line, so that's just something to deal with. If you put a little gloss on, the insane amount of glitter really shines through.

While green isn't typically the most common lipstick color, it really is fun to go with something a little less usual. Makeup is all about trying out different personas and letting your personality shine, and sometimes you just want the world to see you as a green-lipped badass.

So. Lime Crime Serpentina Unicorn Lipstick, Tribal Vault faux septum, Quay About Last Night sunnies, Black Milk A Sassy Nation Bodysuit, BM Woodchucks, and Black Milk x Solestruck collection Who's That Cat Madeleine's

Last Day of the Eyeshadow Game!

OMG! I'm finally using my last palette!!! it has definitely been a struggle, but I managed to get through using a different one each day tip I used them all once. I finished up with another Naked (natch) with some nice bright lipstick, cuz obviously it's festive.

So I've got the Naked2 Basics palette going on, with Benefit's They're Real! mascara, Matte Bad Blood on lips and liner of the same color underneath. Pretty simple stuff, but this is Definitely one of my favorite red colors. It's smooth and creamy and really stays put. Compared to a lot of other red options, the bleeding is super minimal, and i don't feel like i'm constantly getting it everywhere, plus it really is a great color, so win-win.

Can't end this shenanigan without some Black Milk of course, with the Versailles crop top, and sparkly gold Jeffrey Campbells 'Shalimar' Heel. Keeping it short today because I have some other things I have planned for blogging, so on to better things!

At least I've proven I can set my mind to something and actually get through it ;)

Getting Naked 2

ok, i'm a little happy with how things went today. black on black is always a good decision, I love these shoes, and despite the fact i'm down to just nude palettes, I was stoked with how the shadow turned out.

Also i'm thinking about getting my septum pierced. I know it's a little on the trendy side, but there are such pretty options for rings these days! I used to hate this piercing, but now it's really growing on me. And these faux rings from Tribal Vault just make me like the idea even more.

And on top of that, I got some rad new earrings from Baublebar I was dying to try out (the little ear creeper going up my ear), and I am so stoked I have so many pretty things to adorn my head with.

With or without glasses, this palette made me very happy today. I used Naked2, Matte Revolution lipstick in Blackmail over a lip pencil of the same name, with Lancome's Hypnose Doll Lashes mascara (and the usual brow game/eyeliner).

Ugh wearing little lies fabric makes me feel so witchy and happy, especially with some dark lippy and smoky eyeshadow. Black Milk speaks to my soul. Yessssssssss.

BM Little Lies Sweater, old Guess skirt, and like the most perfect combination for shoes ever, Black Milk AND Jeffrey Campbell. What else could I even ask for.

Makeup for days and days...

Another day and here's yet another palette! UD's old Smoked palette finally got to see its day in the sun after I've had it in my beauty arsenal for like 3 months.  I wasn't super sure what I wanted to do with this one, as the colors are really heavy and dark for the most part, but there are a couple of really nice neutrals that make it all even out nice. I also wound up adding a different coppery moon dust to the lid to give some shimmer and blend with the rest of the shadow. Even though the palette isn't really around anymore, all of the colors in it are still available.
Also keeping the whole new lipstick ea. day thing going, I used one of my Lime Crime Velvetines in Wicked to go with the nice sort of autumn colors I had going on in the eye look. I really do like the velvetines quite a bit, thigh they can be a bit drying and i feel like you really need to have some nice non-chapped lips going on for them to work out well. This color in particular tends to come off a little more than you would typically expect of these bad boys, as they really do stay on and don't get on anything (unless you're eating), so I don't recommend wearing white with this lipstick... But same brow shindig going on, and Cannonball mascara are also getting in here.

And here's some Black Milk for good measure. These shoes are SO damn comfy, i need one in every color. SolestruckXBlackmilkclothing forever. Seriously love this bomber though, I need like 5 of them. How can you say no to Disney too?? You can't.

Makeup! Pt... i-lost-track!

OMG ANOTHER NAKED PALETTE! How many of these things do i have?? All of them. The answer is all of them. But anywho, I just got my fancy new Lime Crime CRY BABY lipstick the other day and was crazy itching to try it out. OMG HERE IT IS IN ALL ITS GLORY.

I definitely did an entire head-to-toe look based solely on lipstick. i just accept that these are things i do now.

Mooooving on, Once I decided what I was wearing, I figured Naked3 would complement nicely both with the crazy bright lipstick as well as the red/pink tones in my skirt, and lemmeh just sayyyyy, so much love. I feel like i made good decisions today. I really love the Naked3 palette, just cuz it's so nice and rosy and happy. Definitely not an intense look like so many others, it's subtle and sweet, and even a little dainty. Even the shimmer in it is light and really doesn't wind up all over your face. So feminine omg.

So. Naked3 eyeshadow, Lancome's Grandiose mascara, usual brow game, Too Faced bronzer, and my new love, Cry baby on mah face. And for the lipstick-inspired outfit, Black Milk Sweetheart Sky Blue Bodysuit and Gorgeous Garden Cheerleader Skirt along with one of my favorite pairs of Miistas, Rachel.

And here's one more just cuz "i think something just fell down my boobs" is always a fun look.
